Absolutely!!
Branded cameras like Hikvision, Dahua, Reolink and Ezviz is not necessary to use Frigate.
The images above is from THIS camera. When Frigate detects a Human Frigate automatically takes a zoomed in snapshot of the object. Above images are a 540×540 crop of the area where a Human was detected.
Notice the bright light behind the subject. Frigate was still able to detect a Human. The reason for this is the setting in the camera itself called WDR (Wide Dynamic Range), this prevents the whole image filling up with bright light and the camera will lower the brightness in areas where it is not needed. Resulting in a video stream that Frigate can use to detect objects.
I have seen some other WiFi cameras for even cheaper in the 2 mega pixel range. I have NOT had the privilege of putting those cameras through some testing, so currently I can not confirm if they will work.
Plus WiFi jamming is becoming a thing so I would not recommend using WiFi cameras any way, unless you have no other option.
